About BOE

BOE stands for Barrels of Oil Equivalent, which is a conversion that gives the equivalence between oil and gas production. This conversion is useful for comparing numbers on a bubble map. For example, the energy from 100 bbl/day oil is equivalent to 600,000 cf/day gas production, so both parameters have the same size bubble or pie slice on the map.

In GeoVista, enter into the BOE field the constant for determining the equivalence of gas production and oil production (E3m3 to m3 in metric and Mcf in imperial. The default values are 6.0 (imperial) and 1.06865 (metric), which means 1 bbl (oil) = 6.0 Mcf (gas) and 1 m3 (oil) = 1.06865 E3m3 (gas), respectively.
