Smoothing Grids - Overview

There are three main factors that affect the smoothing of your grid:

Smoothing after gridding - Once you have created your grid and posted it to your map window, you can smooth its appearance by selecting Smooth Horz/Slice Data. This is a simple averaging of data values that does not change the original grid values.
Gridding method - Gridding methods are algorithms that are applied to your horizon data to calculate and assign values to a grid. Some algorithms are specifically designed to smooth grid node values or have options to apply additional smoothing functions to grid node value calculations. Gridding geometry - Grid geometry controls the sampling of your input data values. Contours are created by connecting grid nodes and their smoothness depends on the number of grid nodes available to define the shape. Coarse grids produce fewer grid nodes and therefore more blocky or angular contours.
