Hot-Keys
- Overview
Hot-keys are key combinations that you can press on your computer's keyboard to quickly access WinPICS
functions. Hot-keys save time because they save you from searching for functionality through the bars.
Key points to remember when using hot-keys
- Hot-keys in this help document look like this: <z>
- Buttons in the software also display inside brackets. For example, you will see "Click <OK> to close the dialog box." For hot-keys, you will see "Press
<z> on your keyboard to zoom in on the map."
- Hot-keys are specific to the active window. Therefore,
not all hot-keys are active in all windows or in all modes.
- Hot-keys are listed at the right-hand side of
menu items in the window's bar.
- Hot-keys are case-sensitive, so make sure you
turn off <Caps Lock>.
- If you need to press multiple keys at the same
time, you will see a plus sign between the two keys. For example, to zoom
in on your map by a factor of 2, you need to press and hold the <Ctrl>
key, and then press and release <z> once.
The instructions would display as follows: "Press <Ctrl>
+ <z> to zoom your map by 2x the mape scale."
- If you need to press two keys in succession, but
not at the same time, they will display as follows: "Press <z>, <z>
to zoom out of the map by 2x the map scale."
- Any time you press keys, make sure you release the keys before you carry out the next step in a workflow.
- After a short time, the hot-keys will become second
nature to you - saving you time and making your workflow more efficient.
