Licensing FAQ
The following are common questions about using licenses.
Why isn't WinPICS able to pull a network license from the server computer?
The license server is on a different subnet than the client computer. You will need to set an environmental system LSFORCEHOST variable on the client computer. Follow these steps:
- If you're using Windows XP
- Click <start>, then right-click on and select from the menu.
- Select the Advanced tab.
- Click <Environment Variables>.
- Under the User variable section, click <New>.
- In the Variable name field, type LSFORCEHOST.
- In the Variable value field, type the IP address of the license server computer (For example, 192.168.1.100).
- Click <OK> and close the windows.
- If you're using Windows 2000
- On your desktop, right-click on and select from the menu.
- Select the Advanced tab.
- Click <Environment Variables>.
- Under the User variable section, click <New>.
- In the Variable name field, type LSFORCEHOST.
- In the Variable value field, type the IP address of the license server computer (For example, 192.168.1.100).
When I start WinPICS, why do I get a message saying: “WinPICS has failed to find a valid security device attached to your computer"?
This error can occur as a result of any one of the following conditions.
- The security block has been removed from the parallel port on the back of the computer.
- The trial license has expired.
- Windows is holding on to the executable. WinPICS will not allow a second instance of the application to run. You must end the process in you Task Manager window first.
- Running a network license and WinPICS requires up to 30 seconds to release and renew.
- No more licenses are available on the network.
- The sentinel system driver is not installed. WinPICS is not able to detect a hardware key without the driver installed. (Look for in the Windows Add\Remove Programs tool).
