Import GeoReferenced Images

Follow these steps to import a GeoReferenced image onto your map:

Before you import your image, make sure you set the map's UTMUniversal Transverse Mercator units to the same zone used by the image. Selected Prefs | Project Preferences, and make the changes on the Map & Units tab.

From the Application toolbar, select | Import Georeferenced Images to open the Import GeoReferenced Images dialog box. View image

From the Format Name list, choose the type of image you want to import. You have the following options:

Image Type	Description
*.BMP	Bitmap
*.ADF	Arc/Info Compressed Wavelets
*.JPG	JPEG JFIF
*.PNG	Portable Network Graphics
*.TIF	GeoTIFF

Click <Add> to launch the Open dialog box and locate your image file.
Click <Open> to add the file to the Source File box. View image

In the Source File box, select the file you added.
Click <File Info> to open the Info dialog box, where you can examine the data in the image file. View image

Close the Info dialog box.

Click <Import> to load the file into your WinPICS Map window. The Info dialog box will show you if the import was successful. View image

Look in the Info dialog box to see your GeoTIFF's projection and datum, and then make sure you properly set your project's projection and datum. This is important because WinPICS will convert your GeoTIFF to the project's projection and datum.

Click <X> to close the Info dialog box, and click <Close> to close the Import GeoReferenced Images dialog box. Your Mapwindow should now display your image. View image
