Format Object
Each item on the print layout is an object that you can edit, resize, reposition, or delete. Follow these steps to select an object:
- Set your cursor to Select (found on the Tools toolbar).
- Click the object you want to select. You can tell the object is selected when a border with boxes appears around the object.
How to Edit
You can edit any text you added to your map.
- Using the Select tool, double-click on the text object you want to edit. All the map objects should disappear so that you can fully see your text.
- Type in the new information.
- Press <Enter> on your keyboard to accept the changes and return to the previous layout view.
How to Resize
- Select an object.
- Hover the mouse over one of the border boxes until
the cursor turns into a double arrow (this will only happen for objects
that you can resize).
- Click and drag the box to resize the object.
How to Reposition
- Select an object.
- Click and drag the object to its new position
on the print layout.
- The pink borders around the edges of the Print
Layout window show the page margins. If you drag an object outside
these margins, the object (or portion of the object outside the lines)
will not appear in the printout.
How to Delete
- Select an object.
- Click <Delete>
on your keyboard to remove the item from the print layout.
- There is no undo functionality in the Print
Layout window, but if you want to return a standard object that you deleted, you can use the Drawing toolbar to
re-draw the item in the print layout.
