Use the caliper tool to define the gate for a horizon. The caliper appears in the Seismic window when you open the Horizon Attributes dialog box or the Similarity Mapping dialog box. You may have to move the dialog box to see the caliper. View image
The calipers perform differently depending on the mode you select in the Horizon Attributes or Similarity Mapping dialog box. The following table shows the actions you can perform with the caliper and their effect in the Horizon Attributes or Similarity Mapping dialog box:

Move Caliper - Click and hold on the base and use your mouse to move the caliper to a location on your Seismic window. | The Time Offset value changes to show the time offset of the centre of the gate from the selected horizon. | The Offset value changes to show the time offset of the centre of the gate from the mid-point between the selected horizons. | The Time Centre value changes to show the centre of the gate. |
Open/Close Calilper- Click and hold the top or bottom jaw and slide your mouse to open or close the caliper. The yellow line showing the gate gets longer or shorter as you open or close the caliper. | The Gate Each Side value changes to show the time on either side of the centre of the gate. | The Extend By value changes to show the size of the time gate relative to the distance between the selected horizons. A positive number means the gate is larger, a negative number means it is smaller. |
The Time Centre value changes to show the new centre of the gate.
The Gate Above/Below value changes to show the size of the time gate. |
