Project FAQ
The following are common questions about working with a project.
When I Zoom All from the Map window, why is the data pushed up into one corner?
This is caused by either a well spot with a 0,0 coordinate, or an imported SEG-Y file with bad X,Y coordinates. If the project is compacted into a corner of the window, then there is something in the opposite corner pushing it there. Follow these steps to correct the map display:
- On the Application toolbar, select to open the Well Spot Database.
- Click the UTM-X and UTM-Y column headers to sort each column. A well spot with an incorrect coordinate will make itself obvious.
- Highlight the out of place well spot and click <Del> to remove it from the database.
- Return to the Map window and press the <Shift> + <A> hot keys to zoom to the map extents.
- On the Application toolbar, select . This creates a PROJECT.CSV file in the root of the project folder, listing all lines loaded with their start and end XY coordinates.
- In Windows Explorer, browse to your project folder and delete all the files for the line.
- On the Application toolbar, select .
When I open a seismic line, only the horizon picks are displayed. Why doesn't the seismic appear?
WinPICS
is displaying the project located in the WPBACKUP folder instead of the current working project. On the Application toolbar, select to verify the location of the project.
After importing a SEG-Y file, WinPICS generated a project integrity message that reads “Error: LNXXX.sgy and LNXXX.yd0 can not be in the project." What should I do?
You need to move the source *.SGY file(s) for the problem line(s) into a sub-folder of the project directory.
When I open my project folder in WinPICS 4.80 the following message appears. “Wrong Gridding Database Version. The Program will quit”.
Due to enhancements made to the grid database in WinPICS 5.0, projects created in version 5.0 and later are only reverse compatible with version 4.88.
Why is the following warning message displayed when I perform a database rebuild: "Can not delete old *.DXY file"?
WinPICS
has encountered a *.DXY file that is write-protected. Browse to your project folder and make sure that read-only status is removed from the *.DXY files. Then re-run the database rebuild.
