Export SEGY Files

Follow these steps to export your WinPICS project's 2D and 3D SEGY data to a number of different data types:

  1. From the Application toolbar, select | Export Seismic Data (SEGY) to open the Export Seismic SEGY File(s) dialog box. View image

  1. In the left window, left-click on the file you want to export, and click <Add to Export List> to move that file to the right window. To select multiple files, hold the <Shift> or <Ctrl> key while you click the file names.
  1. In the Export Path field, WinPICS displays the default location (an Export folder within your project folder directory) where it will export your SEGY files. To edit this location, you can either type in a new export path, or click <...> to open the Browse for Folder dialog box, where you can browse for a new location to export the files. Click <OK> to return to the Export SEGY File(s) dialog box, where your folder location will appear in the Export Path field.
  2. In the Export File section, WinPICS displays the default format in which it will export your SEGY files. To change this format, click <...> to open the Select Format File dialog box, where you can select a new format file. Click <Open> to return to the Export Seismic SEGY File(s) dialog box, where your new format file will appear in the Export Format field.
  3. From the Data Type list, select one of the following data types:

Data Types

IBM float

16-bit Integer

IEEE Float (Type6)

8-bit Integer (Type5)

IEEE Float (Type1)

8-bit Integer (Type8)

  1. From the Endian Type list, select an endian type. Big endian and Little endian are terms used to describe the order in which bytes are read by a computer. This order is also referred to as high-byte and low-byte order.
  2. From the Character Type list, select either ASCII or EBCIDIC. You may want to select EBCIDIC if the export type is IBM Float, Big Endian.
  3. From the Live Trace Flag list, select one of the following options:

Flag

Description

Scan For Zero Traces

Will scan samples to verify flag setting.

Set All Traces Live

Will scan samples and set all flag settings live.

Ignore Live Flag

Will not scan samples to verify flag setting.

  1. Select the Apply Coordinates Conversion check box if you want to convert the coordinates in the SEGY file to another projection or datum.
  2. Select the remaining check boxes, as applicable, to apply to your export. You have the choice to apply an amplitude scale factor, polarity, and bulk shift (either as start time or to use to resample the data).
  3. Click <OK> to export your data. If you selected the Apply Coordinates Conversion check box, you will first see the Project Conversion Parameters dialog box, where you can select which projection or datum to convert.
