GeoVista CDP Tops

WinPICS provides a pre-processor to parse out Tops information from GeoVista CDP well-spot files. Follow these steps to import GeoVista CDP Tops:

  1. On the Applicationtoolbar select | Well Database. The Well Spot Database dialog box will open. It contains a list of the wells in your project and their properties.
  2. Highlight the wells you want to import TOPS for, and click on ASCII Import | Well TOPS. (Multi-selection of wells can be accomplished by using the <Shift> and <Ctrl> keys).
  3. Select the source file for your well tops using standard Windows commands. In the File Format: box, select GeoVista CDP Format.
  4. Click <Open> to pre-process the TOPS from the well-spot file. The Define ASCII Format dialog box will open.
  5. At the top right of the dialog find the pull down menu for Format Name. Select KERNEL. Check the Parsed Output display to confirm that the Well_ID, TOP_Name and MD_Depth  information is displayed correctly.
  6. Click <OK> to proceed to the Define Well TOPS Source Units dialog.
  7. Specify the Depth (MD or TVD), Time and Velocity format for the fields contained in the input file.
  8. Click <OK> to continue. The Associate selected wells with TOPS dialog box will open. A check mark will display a successful match between the selected well and TOPS file.
  9. You may force an association by selecting a specific well and clicking on Select TOPS File.
  10. Click <OK> to continue. This will open the Associate TOPS with Horizons window. WinPICS will automatically cross-reference any TOPS detected in the file with the existing horizons located in the project.
  11. Click <OK> to continue.
  12. Once the well tops import is complete, click <Save> to save the well-spot database.
