You are here: Working in the Map window > Drawing > New Grid Drop Inside Data or Outside Data

Grid Data Inside or Outside of a Polygon

Follow these steps:

  1. Create a Map Drawing Polygon or open an existing polygon file.
  2. To grid data inside or outside of a polygon boundary, right-click to open the Map Drawing menu.
  3. Select New Grid With Polygon | New Grid Inside or New Grid With Polygon | New Grid Outside to open the Create Grid Using Polygon dialog box.
  4. Select data and click <Next> to proceed to Gridding dialog box.
  5. Set your gridding options and click <Execute> to apply your settings.

If you Grid Inside data, only the data which falls within the polygon will be used in gridding. Grid Outside will grid only the data that falls outside of the polygon area. See examples below.

When you use a polygon to limit data for gridding, the data points specified by the polygon will be displayed in the Kernel Gridding window. You may arrange your grid geometry as you like.

Gridding will be done using only the specified data. After gridding, all grid nodes in the area excluded by the polygon are dropped.
