Generic ASCII Well Import

To import ASCII well-spot files:

  1. On the Application Toolbar select |Well Database. The Well Spot Database window will open.
  2. Select ASCII Import | Well-spots to open the Select ASCII File(s) To Import dialog box.
  3. Select the source file for your well-spot(s).
  4. In the File Format: box, select Generic (Custom).
  5. Click <Open>. The Define ASCII Format window will open. The first line of the Parsed Output section should consist of a record with a UWI (or other unique name), short name (used as a label on maps), x/y coordinates, KB, and well symbol. Other parameters, such as date and operator name, are optional. If your parsed output doesn't look like this, you need to define the ASCII format.
  6. Click <OK> to open the Well-spot Import Parameters dialog box. View image

Here you can see a summary of the wells to be imported and the symbols with which they will be displayed on the map. The pre-processor has taken care of assigning symbols to your wells based on the status codes from your input file. The summary at the bottom of the dialog should show the Well Name, UTM coordinates and symbol for each well. Records with unknown well status will display a "?" for the well symbol. You will find a large number of unknown symbols if the ASCII input file was not prepared using Kernel Codes.

  1. Specify the depth units (meters or feet). WinPICS will convert the units as needed to comply with the depth units setting in Project Preferences.
  2. Click <Import>.
  3. Once the well-spot import is complete, click <OK> to return to the well-spot database.
  4. Click <Save> to save the new well-spots to the database.
