2D Coordinate Import Problems

In the Fix 2D Coordinate Import window, click <Preview Map Location> to identify 2D coordinate import problems. The following are the most common 2D coordinate import problems:

Location Problems

Misplaced data is the most common cause for problems when previewing your map locations. This happens for one of three reasons:

Bad x/y coordinate information in trace headers or survey file. Check that there are no bad values in the source information. Use a survey file to replace bad trace header values. See 2D Survey Import and Survey File Guidelines.
Incorrect import format or incorrect survey format used to read coordinates from source. Did the format look in the correct location for information? Were x/y values reversed? Do you need to add a scale factor to your format?
Different coordinate systems or survey reference used to produce coordinates in source. Get your data prep service to supply a survey file using the same coordinate system as used for the rest of your project. You can include a bias when you import the survey file to add or subtract a constant.

Click <Back> to examine the source of your coordinate information. If the source information appears correct, examine your format definition. You can do both tasks at once using the Import Wizard to view your source as you refine your format. If trace header information was your source, see the Import Wizard Trace Header Tab. Shotpoint Labelling Problems

Labelling problems are due to bad shotpoint numbers in the trace headers or incorrect import format. The procedure is the same as that described for location problems (above). See Auto-Fix Options to find out if the wizard can help overcome trace labelling problems.

Importing 2D Coordinates for Survey Files Using Match Traces

Your survey file must have an entry for every trace (see Match by Shotpoint or Trace). The first trace in the file will be matched with the first entry in the survey file. Is your survey file in the same order as the traces?
