Compute Velocities
The Compute Velocities function
is used to calculate average and interval velocity using either well
time or seismic time
for the computation. See average velocity definition
and interval velocity definition.
- On the Applicationtoolbar select |.
- Highlight the wells which velocity is to be calculated.
(Multi-selection of wells can be accomplished using the <Shift>
and <Ctrl>
keys).
- Select . View image
Average Velocity
- In the TOPS Velocities
box select to use either well time
or seismic time for the
computation.
- Remove the check mark from the Compute
TOPS Interval Velocity box and click <OK>.
Average velocity will be calculated using the following equation:
When the Average Velocity calculation
has been completed, a check mark will appear in the "TOPS
Avg. Vel" column of the Well-spot database window.
Interval Velocity
- In the TOPS Velocities
box select to use either Well
Time or Seismic
Time for the computation.
- Remove the check mark from the "Compute
TOPS Average Velocity to Seismic Datum" box and click "OK".
- In the Interval
Velocity Computation box select one of the following options:
- Compute between consecutive horizons
-
- Compute relative to a reference horizon
Interval velocity will be calculated using the
following equation:
When the Interval Velocity calculation has been completed, a check mark
will appear in the "TOPS Int.
Vel"
column of the Well-spot database window.
