Fault Traces

You may want to use fault traces in your gridding. WinPICS can translate the faults you define on an in-line or crossline into contact points in the Map window, where you can pick those fault traces and display them as a layer.

Picking Fault Traces

  1. Perform a 3D Volume Fault Interpolation on a horizon.
  2. Calculate contact points.
  3. In the Drawing Tools toolbar, select to turn your cursor to a .
  4. Draw a polygon tracing the fault defined by the contact points.
  5. Right-click and select Save Layer As to open the Save Layer As dialog box.
  6. Select Fault Trace and choose a name for the new fault layer.
  7. Click <Create New Layer>. WinPICS displays the new fault layer in the Layers tab of the Layers Manager bar.

Adding a Fault Trace to a Layer

To add another fault trace to the same layer, follow the steps above and in the Save Layer As dialog box click <Append> instead of <Create New Layer>.
