Format Object
Each item on the print layout is an object that you can edit,
resize, reposition, or
delete. Follow these steps to select an object:
- Set your cursor to Select (found on the Print
Layout Tools' Tools toolbar).
- Click the object you want
to select. You can tell the object is selected when a border with boxes
appears around the object.
How to Edit
You can edit the Author's
Block, lines, shapes, text boxes, and the map size.
- Select the object you want
to edit.
Tip: If you want to edit
text, use the select cursor to double-click on the text. All the map objects
should disappear so that you can fully see your text. Type in the new
information, and press <Enter>
on your keyboard to accept the changes and return to the previous layout
view.
- Click Format
Object (found on either the Print
Layout Tools' Tools toolbar, or
its Drawing
toolbar).
- One of the following will open depending on which
object you selected.
How to Resize
- Select an object.
- Hover the mouse over one of the border boxes until
the cursor turns into an double arrow (this will only happen for objects
that you can resize).
- Click and drag the box to resize the object.
- If you resized a Map object, make sure you click <Refresh
Map> to update the map scale and remove any distortion. As well,
delete the print layout's scale (if applicable), and draw
a new scale on the map (to reflect the new map's size).
How to Reposition
- Select an object.
- Click and drag the object to its new position
on the print layout.
- The pink borders around the edges of the print layout show the page margins.
If you drag an object outside these margins, the object (or portion of
the object outside the lines) will not appear in the printout.
How to Delete
- Select an object.
- Click <Delete>
on your keyboard to remove the item from the print layout.
- While there is no undo functionality in the Print
Layout Tool, you can use the Drawing toolbar
to re-draw the item in the print layout if you want to return a standard
object that you deleted.
