Picking Modes - Overview

Eight picking modes are available in WinPICS . Use the mode that is best suited to your data and how you want to pick the horizon.

Picking Mode Hot-key Description

Guided Auto

<G> Auto mode picks your horizon based on the defined event type until it can find no suitable pick within the picking gate. Left click on your seismic event and, without releasing the mouse button, drag your cursor over the seismic traces you wish to auto pick. Release mouse button.
Guided Manual <M> Draws straight-line segments between picks. Manual pick is good for bad data zones or areas with dead traces.
Sticky Auto <Shift> + <S> Sticky Auto mode enables you to draw freehand, and picks your horizon based on the defined event type until it can find no suitable pick within the picking gate.
Sticky Manual <S> Draw straight line segments between picks freehand.
Lateral <L> Left click on a starting point and lateral pick will pick your horizon based on the defined event type until it can find no suitable pick within the picking gate.
Delete <Delete> Removes picks for the current horizon over specified traces.
Series Auto <Ctrl> + <E> Enables you to draw line segments one after another, and picks your horizon based on the defined event type until it can find no suitable pick within the picking gate.
Series Manual <Shift> + <E> Draw a series of straight-line picks.

The guided auto picking mode is the default mode. All other options are toggled on or off with hot-keys or by clicking the Current Pick Mode button on the Seismic window Horizon Picking toolbar.

The name of the active picking mode will be displayed on this button.
